The official Permission Request Form must be completed and sent to the administrator of licensing to third parties: igalliani@biblesocieties.org (Spanish Manager)
2.2 Distinctives of non-UBS editions of UBS Spanish-language Bible texts
In order to save time in correspondence, potential publishers are recommended to read the following guidelines which set out the basis on which permissions are granted.
2.2.1Licenses are granted to organizations and companies, not to individuals.
2.2.2License agreements will be non-exclusive, non-transferable.
2.2.3Permissions will not be granted for softcover/paperback editions (known as economic Bibles). Ministry editions will be evaluated case by case.
2.2.4License agreements will be for “specific editions” of the Bible or product, and identified by Product title name. No license agreements will be for a range of publications with different titles. No open-ended or blanket content license agreements will be signed. Specific edition includes: size, binding, index, zipper, and any additional features. Licensee will be able to print the binding approved in different colors. The publication should be imprinted under the name of licensee. Licensee is not allowed to sell book blocks or unbound sheet stock of the Licensed Product for individuals, churches, organizations or publishers. Licensee is not allowed to sell any custom/personalized cover editions to any individuals, churches, organizations or publishers.
2.2.5Suggested retail prices and discounts to distributors will be required to appear in the license agreement.
2.2.7The edition should be quite distinct in appearance and price from any UBS edition available in the same geographical region. Permission would not normally be granted for any edition that is in direct competition with an existing or currently planned UBS edition.
2.2.8The most common distinctive of a non-UBS editions is that they contain a certain percentage of additional material specific to the publisher, group, denomination or church. As such, a minimum of 20% of additional non-biblical material is required for non-UBS editions content license agreements.
2.2.9Additional non-biblical material should not discredit the reputation of UBS Bible texts, UBS and Bible Societies. Permissions will not be granted to print extreme sectarian or polemical material alongside UBS Bible texts.
2.2.10Copyright of all material is to be clearly differentiated on the copyright page.
2.2.11The logo/brand of the Bible Text must appear on the cover.
2.2.12Agreements will be for a fixed period with recommendation of not exceeding 5 years from the execution date of the agreement for printed format and 1 to 3 years for digital format, and renewable by mutual agreement of UBS and publisher. Auto renewal clauses and perpetual licenses are not permitted. Renewals will not be denied arbitrarily. Renewals will be granted provided licensee has complied with terms of the Agreement, and UBS is satisfied with the relationship with licensee.
2.2.13In the event of any change in the constituent members of a corporation (e.g. companies buying or being bought, merging, one becoming the holding company for another), or in any case of bankruptcy or liquidation, contracts automatically become null and void. No permission can be transferred to another company.
2.2.14Whatever kind of edition is produced, royalties’ payments and reports including distribution figures should be sent quarterly, semiannually, or annually, to the copyright’s manager, with recommendation to include distribution by country if possible.
2.2.15Copies of the Work will be available for purchase by UBS member Bible Societies, and these copies must be sold at the best price, highest discount plus an additional 5% discount and most favorable terms of payment available.
2.2.167 Licensee is not allowed to sublicense. (original notation includes numeral 7)
2.2.18Licensee is not authorized to alter, modify and/or introduce any variations or changes to the original content in its wording, structure, or critical apparatus.
